Where to Stay on Thassos: Our Guide to the Best Hotels on the Island

Thassos is the northernmost Greek island and one of the easiest to reach by car from Serbia. You drive to the port of Keramoti near Kavala, roll onto the ferry and forty minutes later you are on an island covered in pine forest and olive groves, with water so clear it looks unreal. Because the drive is manageable, all the hotels in this guide are booked with your own transport, which also means you decide when the holiday starts and ends. Below are six hotels from our Thassos offer that we know well and recommend with confidence, from full resorts to simple family run places.

Five star resorts on the beach

Ilio Mare is one of the most popular hotels on the island and it earns that status every season. It sits surrounded by greenery on its own beach, reached across a quiet street, about 1.5 km from Skala Prinos and the ferry port, which is practical if you arrive by car. The hotel has 150 rooms, all with air conditioning, minibar, safe and balcony. Classic rooms of around 22 square meters look toward the olive groves or the sea and take two adults and a child up to six, and there are larger family rooms too. Prices start from 127 euros for two people.

Royal Paradise Beach Resort And Spa is the choice for a quiet holiday without children, since the hotel accepts guests older than 12. It stands on the sand and pebble beach of Rosso Gremos on the southeast side of the island, about 3 km from Potos and close to the famous Paradise Beach. With only 77 units spread across a main building and four annexes it never feels crowded, and most room types come with a sea view, from standard rooms to executive and panorama suites. Prices start from 115 euros for two people.

Thassos Grand Resort opened in July 2016 in Agios Ioannis, 30 km from Limenas, on its own sandy beach. Agios Ioannis is one of the best known beaches on the island, framed by olive trees and with a view that reaches Mount Athos on a clear day. The resort has 171 units in 14 low buildings, standard rooms measure a comfortable 30 square meters and look at the garden, the pool or the sea. Prices start from 155 euros for two people.

A family classic in Potos

Alexandra Beach Spa Resort is probably the best known Thassos hotel among guests from Serbia, and for a reason. It is a proper family hotel on its own beach where sunbeds and umbrellas are free of charge, only 500 meters from the center of Potos, so you can walk to tavernas and shops in the evening. The complex consists of four buildings and bungalows with 225 units in total, including renovated deluxe rooms with garden or sea view, rooms that share a pool, and junior suites. Prices start from 210 euros for two people.

Solid three star value

Achillion Tasos sits in Skala Potamia, 800 meters from Chrysi Ammoudia, one of the loveliest golden sand beaches on the island. The hotel is wrapped in pine forest and there are shops, tavernas and a few bars right nearby. Rooms are simple standard doubles of 18 square meters with two beds and an extra bed, each with bathroom, air conditioning, TV and balcony. Prices start from 56 euros for two people, which makes it one of the best value picks we have.

Aethria is a green oasis in the wider center of Limenas, spread over 11,000 square meters of gardens, 850 meters from the beach, with a bus stop and the first shops about 100 meters away. Standard rooms of 20 square meters and family rooms of 32 square meters with space for two children make it a practical base for exploring the island capital. Prices start from 65 euros for two people.

How to choose

Families do best at Alexandra Beach or Ilio Mare, couples who want peace should look at Royal Paradise, and if the budget is the priority, Achillion and Aethria deliver an honest Greek holiday for a fraction of the resort price. Thassos sells out early for July and August, so if a specific room type matters to you, book in spring. Call us or send an inquiry and we will check live availability for your dates.
