Overview

The island of Tenerife, the largest of the seven Canary Islands, lies in the Atlantic Ocean, about 100 km west of Morocco. It is precisely this geographical position that has given the entire archipelago a climate of eternal spring, with temperatures ranging from 18 to 26 degrees throughout the year. On an area of just over 2000 km², there is so much to see and experience. Tenerife is also called the island of a "thousand experiences". There are thousands of things you can do here all year round, thanks to the mild climate. UNESCO's world cultural heritage has left its mark here too, so during your stay on this exotic island you will find numerous protected areas and sites. It is home to the oldest "dragon tree" in the world, hosts the second largest carnival, right after the one in Rio de Janeiro, and the third highest volcano in the world has found its place here, along with many other attractions. Besides its fascinating history, tropical flora and fauna, and the dramatic landscapes of the volcanic mountain Teide (the highest peak in Spain at 3718 m), this part is no less impressive than other parts of Spain when it comes to gastronomy. Fresh grilled sea fish with tasty seasonal vegetables is the typical food. Papas arrugadas is a traditional dish made from potatoes and served with mojo sauce, a spicy sauce of peppers and garlic. When you season all these delicacies with local wines, you get a perfect taste in the beautiful setting this island provides. Travel programme: Day 1 (12 November) Belgrade - Frankfurt - Tenerife Meeting at Nikola Tesla airport with the guide at 04.00h in the morning. Flight to Frankfurt at 06.15h on flight LH1415. Arrival in Frankfurt at 08.20h. Continuation of the journey to the southern airport on the island of Tenerife at 10.00h on flight LH4380. Landing on the island at 13.50h. After passing airport formalities, transfer to the hotel in Puerto de la Cruz. Check-in. Free time. Dinner at the hotel and overnight stay. Day 2 (13 November) Puerto de la Cruz Breakfast. A day set aside for leisurely sightseeing and getting to know the region. Puerto de la Cruz has some of the most notable sights to visit. We suggest starting the day in Sitio Litre park; the ticket at the time of publication of the programme costs about 6€ and can be bought on site. Sitio Litre is an orchid garden over 200 years old. Back in 1927, Agatha Christie stayed here with her daughter after divorcing her husband, and it was here that she found inspiration for the novel The Mysterious Mr Quin. After the orchid garden, continue to the Botanical Garden (Jardin Botanico). The ticket for the botanical garden at the time of publication of the programme is about 5€ and can be bought on site. The garden covers an area of 20 000 m2 and there you will have the chance to see flowers of different colours and shapes. The garden has many paths leading through the vegetation, so you will be able to enjoy and admire nature and all its colours. After the botanical garden, we suggest an independent visit to Loro Park, one of the must-see attractions in the Canaries. It is not only one of the largest zoos in the world, but also an institution focused on projects for nature conservation, endangered animal species, breeding the richest population of parrots in the world, and much more. Loro Park is home to many animals living among tropical palms and exotic vegetation. Numerous awards for consistent and diligent work in the field of animal protection (displayed inside the park) have earned this respected institution the title of Animal Embassy (the first such park in the world to receive an ecological certificate). That is why this park is one of the most visited zoos in the world and offers an unforgettable experience, being a true kingdom of flora and fauna which, in addition to dense tropical vegetation, winding rocky paths and incubators for baby parrots, also boasts the largest dolphin and penguin aquariums in the world. You can also see gorillas, capybaras, sloths, lions, Bengal tigers, a red panda, a jaguar, flamingos and various parrots, as well as watch shows performed by killer whales, sea lions, dolphins and parrots. The park ticket at the time of publication of the programme is available at a price of about 50€ and can be bought on site. There is the possibility of an individual trip to Santa Cruz, where the closing of the famous carnival takes place. Santa Cruz is 37 km away and public transport runs there every 15 minutes. The ride takes about 40 min. Dinner at the hotel according to the hotel schedule. Dinner. Overnight stay. Day 3 (14 November) Santa Cruz - San Cristobal La Laguna Breakfast. Departure for a full-day excursion and tour of the northern part of the island. Santa Cruz is today the capital of the island. It boasts a history of over 2000 years, dating back to the first settlements on the site of the present-day city. It was founded by the Guanches, the indigenous inhabitants of the Canaries, who are believed to have settled the island 1000 years BC. The city's present name comes from the Spanish conquistadors who landed on the island in the 15th century. Today Santa Cruz is a modern city with developed tourist infrastructure. In addition to the famous city beach Teresitas, whose sand was brought by ship from Africa, during a stay in this picturesque city one should also see the main city square Plaza de España, the San Cristobal fortress, the Auditorio Santa Cruz concert hall, whose futuristic shape was created by the famous Santiago Calatrava, the old city market Mercado de Nuestra Senora de Africa and more. After the tour of the capital, the journey continues to San Cristobal La Laguna, or simply La Laguna. This is the first city founded in the Canary Islands and is today included in UNESCO's world cultural heritage, having preserved its 15th century appearance. It was built in the colonial style. A walking tour of the city is planned, where you will have the chance to enjoy the architecture and the narrow, charming streets of this city. The town hall building, the Palacio de Nava villa from the early 18th century built in the colonial baroque style, the Teatro Leal built in neoclassicism, Plaza del Adelantado, the Museum of History and Anthropology, the tower of the Iglesia de la Concepcion from 1511, the Church of St. Augustine and many other landmarks. Besides the wonderful architecture, the city offers many eateries with excellent local specialities. After a short walk, return to the hotel. Dinner. Overnight stay. Day 4 (15 November) Icod de los Vinos - Garachico - Mirador La Cruz de Hilda - Masca (100 km) Breakfast. Departure for a full-day excursion. The first stop is the small village of Icod de los Vinos, home to the famous "dragon tree", believed to be 800 years old and one of the symbols of the island of Tenerife. Continuation to Garachico, another attractive location on the island. Situated in the northwest of the island, Garachico is one of the oldest villages in the Canary Islands. It was founded at the end of the 15th century by a Genoese banker and was a key trading port between Europe and the Spanish colonies in America. It was destroyed in a volcanic eruption in 1706. One of the symbols of the settlement is the rock of the same name, a natural monument. Garachico, with its rich architectural heritage from the 16th and 17th centuries, is one of the best preserved historical and artistic districts of the Canaries. It was declared a site of cultural interest in 1994. After the tour, a visit to Masca follows, a small mountain village in the southwest of the island. It is believed that pirates once came and hid right here, given the position of this settlement nestled between mountain massifs. The walk leads to a platform, a viewpoint offering a fascinating view of the surroundings. The village lies at 650 m above sea level in the Macizo de Teno mountains. It is one of the most popular and most visited locations on the island. Besides the stunning view, there are craft shops, a bar and a restaurant, and the settlement itself has been declared an ethnographic historical site of interest. After the tour, the route continues to the Mirador La Cruz de Hilda viewpoint. A short photo break. Return to the hotel, dinner, overnight stay. Day 5 (16 November) Orotava - Teide National Park - Vilaflor - Costa Adeje/Playa Las Americas Breakfast and check-out from the hotel. Departure for Orotava, the city of flowers. A walk through the town, which is located in the valley of the same name and known for its perfectly preserved buildings. The town centre has been declared a historic artistic site. Some of the most famous features of this town are the balconies adorning the facades of the traditional houses. During the walk it is possible to see many interesting places and buildings, among which La Casa Lercaro (a historic building) and La Casa de Los Balcones (a building with traditional Canarian wooden balconies), the church of Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion, and the Town Hall building deserve special mention. Continuation of the journey to the highest peak of Spain, Teide. This volcanic mountain is centrally positioned on the island. The road leads up to 2100 m above sea level and the Canadas del Teide National Park, which is protected and on the UNESCO world heritage list. This is one of the most visited parks in Europe. During the tour, viewpoints are available offering views of the Roques de Garcia rock formation. Next to Teide is the second highest mountain in the Canary archipelago, Pico Viejo at 3135 m. Afterwards, continuation to Vilaflor. A short visit to the oldest and largest pine trees of Tenerife. Continuation of the journey to Costa Adeje and Playa Las Americas, arrival at the hotel, check-in. Dinner and overnight stay. Day 6 (17 November) Playa Las Americas (optional Aqualand, Siam Park and La Gomera) Breakfast. A day set aside for rest and relaxation. Time on the beach or an independent visit to one of the two water parks: Aqualand or Siam Park. Siam Park is one of the largest water parks in Europe with plenty of fun attractions. There is an optional possibility of organising an excursion to the island of La Gomera, the third smallest island of the archipelago. If the number of registered travellers is fewer than 20, the excursion is conducted in English. La Gomera belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and its capital is San Sebastian de la Gomera. The island is an ecological treasure, and its coast is dotted with small black sand beaches between cliffs, a true paradise for lovers of untouched nature. The inhabitants of La Gomera have an ancient way of communicating by whistling, a language called Silbo Gomero, which can be heard up to 3 km away. The island of La Gomera is known for the Garajonay national park, a nature reserve protected by UNESCO. It is also known as the port where Christopher Columbus called before crossing the Atlantic with his three ships, stopping to replenish food and water supplies for his crew, so the Casa de Colon house where he stayed in the town of San Sebastian during his visits to the island is now a tourist attraction. Another attraction is Roque de Agando, an impressive, steep formation of volcanic lava, and Laguna Grande, which according to legend was the meeting place of the island's ancient witches. Return to Tenerife in the late afternoon. Dinner. Overnight stay. Day 7 (18 November) Playa Las Americas (optional Los Gigantes) Breakfast. Time set aside for rest and relaxation, or the possibility of an optional half-day boat excursion to the Los Gigantes cliffs. Los Gigantes is located in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, on the western coast of the island. Its main feature is the formation of the same name, rising from the sea to a height of 600 m. The town got its name from this giant rock. Los Gigantes means giants. Return to Playa Las Americas. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight stay. Day 8 (19 November) Tenerife - Frankfurt - Belgrade Breakfast. Check-out from the hotel. Free time until departure for the airport transfer. Flight to Frankfurt on flight LH4381 at 14.40h. Arrival in Frankfurt at 20.25h. Continuation of the journey to Belgrade on flight LH1414 at 22.00h. Arrival in Belgrade at 23.50h. End of service.
