TRAVEL PROGRAM: Day 1 (October 13) Belgrade - Munich - Bilbao The group meets at Nikola Tesla airport two and a half hours before departure. Flight to Munich with Lufthansa, flight LH1739 at 06.15h. Arrival in Munich at 07.50h. Continuation of the journey to Bilbao at 08.55h on flight LH1824. Arrival in Bilbao at 11.10h. After collecting the luggage, a one-hour panoramic sightseeing tour of Bilbao, covering the new part of the city (Abandoibarra), home to the city's most beautiful square (Plaza de Federico Moyua), the San Mames stadium where Athletic Bilbao plays, and the Guggenheim museum, a modern architectural masterpiece that has become a symbol of the city, followed by a transfer to the hotel. After checking in, a short rest and then a walking tour of Bilbao (without entering the buildings) accompanied by a guide. The tour covers the old town (Casco Viejo). A walk through the pedestrian zone, past the Santiago Cathedral (Catedral de Santiago), the New Square (Plaza Nueva) and the Ribera market (Mercado de la Ribera), a very interesting building from the early 19th century on the banks of the Nervion river, known today as the largest covered market in Europe. Return to the hotel. Free evening. Overnight stay. Day 2 (October 14) Bilbao - Santander - Santillana Del Mar - Bilbao (258 km) Breakfast. Departure on a full-day excursion to Santander and Santillana Del Mar. Santander, often called the most beautiful city of northern Spain, belongs to the province of Cantabria in the north of Spain and is its capital. Set on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea and blessed with an exceptional natural setting dominated by long beaches and green hills, it has been one of the favorite gathering places of the Spanish and European aristocracy since the 19th century. The city has many beaches, the best known being Playa de El Sardinero and Playa de la Magdalena. Santander has a rich history reaching back to Roman and medieval times. During the city tour you can see the Paseo de Pereda, an old dock converted into a seaside promenade, the city hall, and Magdalena park, which is part of the Spanish royal heritage, as it hosted the royal family during the summer months. The summer palace of King Alfonso XIII, located inside the park, was where the Spanish kings rested; today it is a space open to visitors, and the park and surrounding areas bear witness to the history and importance of that era; the royal Magdalena palace was designed by Adolfo Lopez, and next to it lies a beautiful beach. Palacio de la Magdalena and Palacio de Festivales are modern venues intended for cultural events, concerts and theater performances. After the tour, a short break and free time for individual activities. Continuation of the journey to one of the most beautiful and most authentic villages in Spain, Santillana Del Mar. Santillana del Mar is often described as "la vila de las tres mentiras", the town of three lies, because despite its name it is neither holy (santa), nor flat (llana), nor by the sea (del mar). What it is, however, is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Spain. Located in the region of Cantabria in the north of the country, Santillana del Mar is like an open-air museum town, with cobbled streets, stone architecture, flower-covered balconies and rustic buildings dating from the 14th to the 18th century. The whole town exudes the charm of times past. Its most famous landmark is the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana, an imposing 12th century church around which the town grew. In addition, nearby is the famous Altamira cave, with prehistoric drawings more than 14,000 years old, a true gem of world heritage. Return to Bilbao. Free evening. Overnight stay. Day 3 (October 15) Bilbao - Biarritz - San Sebastian - Bilbao (300 km) Breakfast. Departure on a full-day excursion to Biarritz and San Sebastian. Biarritz, once a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast of France, gained its famous name in the mid-19th century, when Empress Eugenie, wife of Emperor Napoleon III, built a lavish villa here right on the coast. Today it is the famous Hotel du Palais, one of the symbols of the beginnings of modern tourism and of the aristocratic spirit of the French Basque Country that lives on today. It was also in Biarritz that Queen Natalija Obrenović bought a castle in 1888, naming it "Sašino" after her son Aleksandar Obrenović, who fell in love there with his future wife, Queen Draga Mašin (the Sašino castle cannot be seen from the bus during the panoramic tour). The tour includes the old port, the lighthouse, a pass by the Orthodox church, the city center and the villa of Empress Eugenie. Free time. Continuation of the journey to San Sebastian, or Donostia, another glamorous gem of the Cantabrian coast and the beautiful capital of the Basque province of Gipuzkoa, close to the French border. Known for its stunning coastline, rich culture, gastronomy and history, San Sebastian is one of the most beautiful and most attractive destinations on the Spanish coast. It is set in the picturesque bay of La Concha, framed by the hills of Monte Igeldo and Monte Urgull, topped by a statue of Christ, which is why it is often compared to Rio de Janeiro. It is distinguished by a blend of tradition, seaside charm and art nouveau architecture. San Sebastian is also known for its prestigious international film festival, the "Golden Shell". The Ayuntamiento de San Sebastian, the city hall, is unique and historically important because it was originally a casino before becoming the city's administrative building. Then follows a visit to the old town and a walk through its narrow, picturesque streets to the main square (Plaza de la Constitution), the fishing port, the Teatro Victoria Eugenia, one of the most important cultural centers in the Basque Country. Although primarily a theater, it also hosts various operas, ballets and musical events. The theater is one of the symbols of culture and art in San Sebastian, and the walk ends at the city's loveliest park, Alderdi. After the guided city tour, free time for individual activities until the return to Bilbao. Free evening. Overnight stay. Day 4 (October 16) Bilbao - Vitoria - Pamplona - Bilbao (335 km) Breakfast. Departure on a full-day excursion that includes visits to the cities of Vitoria and Pamplona. Vitoria (Gasteiz) is the capital of the province of Alava and of the Basque Country. It is one of the greenest cities in Spain, which earned it the title of "European Green Capital" in 2012. It was founded by Sancho VI, King of Navarre, at the end of the 12th century. The old town center, with its numerous wine bars and taverns, leaves no visitor indifferent. During the city tour you can also see the Square of the White Virgin (Plaza de la Virgen Blanca), the 13th century Gothic cathedral, the Bendaña palace, which houses a museum with the largest collection of playing cards in Europe, and the Basque Parliament building. Free time, followed by the continuation of the journey to Pamplona. Pamplona was and remains one of the important cities on the pilgrimage route to Santiago De Compostela in Galicia. Pamplona is the capital of the Spanish autonomous province of Navarre and one of the best-known destinations in Spain, both for its rich history and culture and for the famous running of the bulls and the San Fermin festival, held every year from July 6 to 14, which inspired the famous Hemingway to write the novel "The Sun Also Rises". San Fermin is one of the most celebrated and best-known festivals in the world. During this festival, thousands of visitors come to Pamplona to take part in the running of the bulls or to watch this spectacular tradition. The bull run is challenging and exciting, as the runners race through the streets of the city with the bulls chasing them all the way to the arena, where the bullfights take place. Besides the bull run, the festival is known for its concerts and Basque cuisine, with plenty of dancing, games and merriment. The city's main gems are the 16th century citadel, originally pentagonal in shape, whose remains lie near Castillo square, the bullring, the Palace of Navarre, seat of the government, the 13th century Cathedral of Saint Mary the Royal, where the kings of Navarre were crowned and which houses the mausoleum of King Charles III, the 18th century archbishop's palace, the baroque city hall building, the church of San Nicolas, the Palace of Navarre and the Gate of France. After the tour and a short break, return to Bilbao. Free evening. Overnight stay. Day 5 (October 17) Bilbao - Frankfurt - Belgrade Breakfast and check-out from the hotel. Free time until the transfer, ideal for visiting the Guggenheim museum and having lunch at your own expense. Transfer to the airport. Flight to Frankfurt with Lufthansa, on flight LH1145 at 17.50h. Arrival in Frankfurt at 20.00h. Continuation of the journey to Belgrade on flight LH1414 at 21.40h. Arrival in Belgrade at 23.35h. End of the program.
